Attendant Care Services
Attendant Care provides a range of support services for people with functional impairments and physical disabilities to enable them to live independent lives at home and in the community. Typically, people receive a certain number of hours per week (generally between 28 and 35 hours) from which to buy the support that they need.
The attendant care program aims to:
- Provide a comprehensive and integrated range of basic personal care and support services to assist people with a physical disability with the tasks of daily living
- Help people maintain their independence in their home and in the community and prevent premature admission to long-term residential care
- Provide flexible and responsive services that recognise changing needs
- Provide services which match lifestyle requirements (such as outside normal working hours and at weekends )
- Enable people to “bank” unused hours to enable them to take holidays or fulfil other goals
- Allow people maximum involvement in choices about their services
- Allow people to change providers if they are not satisfied with their services
People receiving support from this service are typically funded at least in part by Ageing Disability and Home Care (ADHC), part of the NSW Government Department of Human Services. People interested in receiving attendant care services should also check with the funding agency to confirm their eligibility and service access requirements
